Kairus undertook a comprehensive air quality assessment in support of the redevelopment of the Harlequin Centre in Exeter.
The assessment considered all potential emissions sources relating to the scheme including traffic, energy centre and construction related emissions, impacts associated with street canyon effects along Paul Street and impacts in terms of new exposure being introduced to the Site. Detailed and comprehensive modelling of the emissions was undertaken in conjunction with recommendations for effective and appropriate mitigation resulted in the proposals being acceptable in terms of air quality and receiving full planning permission.

Development of an air quality monitoring strategy to assess the impact associated with the installation of a new link road and associated mixed-use development on a sensitive Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Devon, with subsequent long-term monitoring survey undertaken to establish existing pollution levels within the SSSI and determine the impact of the link road to meet the requirements of a number of planning conditions associated with planning permissions.

The assessment included detailed modelling of air quality impacts, assessment against the London Plan Air Quality Neutral polices and the provision of a Low Emissions Strategy to reduce impacts on air quality.

The assessment and advice resulted in the Council enforcing planning conditions for the installation of appropriate ventilation and abatement equipment.

Detailed assessment of air quality impacts associated with the submission of a Local Development Order for an extensive mixed-use development in Cornwall, including operational traffic emissions, construction impacts, emissions from waste recycling centre and impacts in relation to exposure.

In support of an application to convert currently unused barns within the farms for luxury holiday lets and residential use, our expert odour consultants undertook attended odour surveys to determine baseline odour levels outside all proposed units, which were used to undertake a comprehensive odour assessment at both sites, based on current best practice guidance showing that satisfactory odour levels could be achieved to prevent statutory nuisance following occupation of the units. Full planning permission was subsequently granted.

The assessments required detailed dispersion modelling to assess emissions to air and determine appropriate design measures to ensure no adverse impacts on local air quality in relation to health and ecology.

Provision of on-going advice through the design process to assist the client in bringing forward an application for a proposed residential scheme in an area where air quality is a significant issue due to the presence of sensitive receptors in areas where pollution levels have been historically high. A comprehensive air quality assessment was undertaken which included detailed modelling within hotspot locations and the development of a comprehensive package of mitigation measures to ensure the proposals would not compromise actions within the Local Authority air quality action plan or result in significant air quality impacts.
